Three methods of counting and classifying teachers into various education levels (e.g. ECE, Primary and Secondary) are supported:
“Allocated Count Method”: Each teacher is assigned to the education level where they teach the most class levels. The totals across all disaggregations will therefore match the total number of teachers on record. This method is simple but not very precise. For example, a teacher who teaches Grades 7, 8, and 9 would be counted as primary only, if the system is configured with Primary = G1–G8 and Secondary = G9–G12.
“Full-time Part-Time Method”: Each teacher contributes a total weight of 1, whether they are full-time classroom teachers or part-time teachers (e.g., those who split time between teaching and administrative or other duties). Their allocation across education levels is based on the proportion of classes they teach. For example, a teacher who teaches both Grade 1 and Grade 12 would be counted as 0.5 in Primary and 0.5 in Secondary. The totals across all disaggregations will therefore match the total number of teachers on record. This method is more advanced and provides greater precision.
“Full-time Equivalent”: Each teacher is weighted only by the proportion of time spent teaching (and, if applicable, performing non-teaching duties). For example, a teacher who teaches Grade 1, teaches Grade 12, and also carries administrative responsibilities would be counted as 0.33 in Primary, 0.33 in Secondary, and 0.33 in Administration. The total across disaggregations will equal—or sometimes be slightly less than—the total number of teachers on record. This method is more advanced and provides the highest level of precision of resource distribution.
